Olean
About Olean
The city of Olean has the largest population in its county, but the city has much of the same mountain town charm as the surrounding area. However, there are a variety of local restaurants that are open every night of the week as well as a couple of active movie theaters. Some of the popular events in Olneay include the popular seasonal Farmer Market, clam bakes, and local arts and crafts shows. There are local sports teams of every sport worth cheering on, and Olean is the hometown of New York Governor Frank Higgins. Visitors to Olean who can't resist a nice golf course will have to stop by Barlett Country Club while in Olean, and architectural enthusiasts will enjoy the city's many old buildings, including an Episcopal Church erected in the 1830's.
The city is nestled right in the New York mountains, so outdoor recreation and nature appreciation are available within walking distance. Rock City Park is one of the more popular destinations for tourists and locals alike in Olean, NY. Rock City Park is the largest exposed prehistoric ocean bed of rock and features eye popping bolders that are multiple stories high and long channels of crevices in the stone that people like to refer to as 'streets,' hence the name Rock City.
