Event Details
Come eat, drink, spend some time in the sun, and learn how to end the exception with us! The Labor Day Kickoff Party to End the Exception is produced by Anti-Recidivism Coalition in collaboration with Mural Arts Philadelphia, Worth Rises, and the other organizations of the End the Exception Coalition, aimed at ending the exception to the Thirteenth Amendment which allows for slavery as punishment for a crime.
This event will take place on Labor Day – Monday, September 5th – 12 to 3pm ET at Habana Outpost in Brooklyn, a restaurant with charming and ample outdoor space known for their excellent sandwiches and drinks in addition to impactful community and environmental work. The event will feature artworks from Philadelphia Mural Arts, multimedia from the #ExceptForMe campaign, and fun end-of-summer activities like mural painting and T-shirt making. Enjoy a drink with us to celebrate your day off while learning about our campaign to make our justice system and our Constitution fairer and more equitable.
Labor Day celebrates American labor—the literal toil that built the United States—and the labor movement, which fought and continues to fight for fair and equal treatment for all workers in the US. It is in this spirit that our Labor Day celebration seeks to honor and protect communities who are over-policed and over-incarcerated— sentenced to work in unsafe conditions, making pennies an hour.
We hope you will join us and spread the word about this event! We look forward to seeing you there.
